2026 Season

Spoon Drive April

IMG_1426-thumb
The first bowl of the season from Club Captain, Delia Panter. First day of the season and the traditional Spoon Drive. The weather was varied, but overall very pleasant. 38 participants enjoyed a great afternoon including tea/coffee and cakes!! Overall winner, Frank Haines (walking off with the wine!), and Gill Saidi had the honour of taking the much sought after wooden spoon on this occasion. Many thanks to everyone involved in supplying cakes, to Anne Begley and helpers for serving tea and coffee and also thanks to David Hiddleston for manning the bar

Lewis Cup

After a few raindrops on the way to the green this afternoon, the sun came out and we had a most enjoyable few hours competing for the Lewis Cup. The competition was played as Mixed Aussie Pairs with 26 competitors.

The early rounds were all competitive and this was reinforced by the need for a penalty shoot out, or at least the Bowls Equivalent, a one end decider to determine the final place In the semi-finals.

Steve Littlewood and Andrew Walker started the final strongly, leading 4-0 after 3 of the 5 ends to be played, but a 6 by David Edwards and David Fryman on end 4 threw the event wide open. Many thanks to Steve for organising and Stuart Campbell for scoring the event.

Our 2025 season opened on a lovely sunny day with a traditional spoon drive, Bernard won with plus 13 and Brian got the wooden spoon, receiving it with good grace!

10th June – Wally Theobald Trophy

On a hot and at times humid afternoon, 20 players contested the third internal one day trophy of the season. A novel format was introduced with the jack on the 2-metre spot on each end but with varied mat placements. Huge thanks are due to Steve Littlewood for rewriting the rules, organising the pairings and the draw, putting out the equipment and scoring throughout whilst taking part himself!! Everyone seemed to enjoy the new format, and it was fantastic to see two of our up-and-coming players, Richard McKeen and David Watson involved in the final.

13th June - Bernie Day

Val Newton wins the Bernie Day Trophy, with Pauline Shepherd runner-up. The trophy was presented at the end of a wonderfully warm day by our President, Anne Begley

5th July - Langdale Cup

This one day singles competition comprised of a round robin stage, each bowler playing four games of six ends with only two woods. The four top scorers then entered the knockout stage comprising of semi-finals and the final. Last year's champion, Dave Edwards retained his title beating Peter Attwell in the final.

Spoon Drive August

On a glorious summer’s day 24 members did battle for the coveted wooden spoon (or, more likely the bottle of wine!) in the last Spoon Drive of the season. Ann and Alan Jarvis organised the event superbly and we all enjoyed a fabulous afternoon of bowling. Neal Evison and Gillian Munro won the competition but Linda was beside herself with excitement to win the wooden spoon!
